Electromagnet

• An electromagnet is an electrically powered magnet.

• Electromagnets are made by coils of wire wrapped around an iron or steel core.

• When current flows through this winding, a temporary strong magnetism is created in the core

• This magnetism disappears almost completely when the current is turned off. The magnetic field is destroyed. This is called electromagnet.

• Electromagnets are used in many devices such as Electric bells, cranes for lifting heavy objects, generators and motors, acoustic magnetism etc.
