Skin



 Skin is an important and large organ of the body of all living beings.


Skin is an important sensory organ of our body.


The outer covering of the body is called the skin


Human skin is mainly composed of two layers. 


The uppermost layer is called the epidermis, while the layer below it is called the endodermis. Under it are the blood vessels and the nerve network. Below it is the subcutaneous layer. It works to regulate body temperature. The outer skin has different layers.


Functions of skin –


Protecting the inner parts of the body - such as muscles, bones, organ systems etc.


Helping the body retain moisture.


To produce Vitamin D.


Controlling body temperature by releasing sweat from the body.


Protection from heat, cold.
