Tuning Fork

If an object vibrates, it can produce sound

We can see how sound is produced by such vibrations using Tuning Fork

Tuning Fork is made of metal with a base and two arms. When the arm hits a hard rubber piece with the help of the base, the arms start vibrating i.e. they start moving back and forth periodically.

Such continuous very fast periodic motion of the arms creates a series of compressions and rarefactions in the air and spreads far from the source. This is what we call a sound wave.

The speed of sound in each tuning fork is different because the length of its arm is different and the frequency of the sound wave changes due to this.
